Crafting Achievable Goals Post-Break
Starting from scratch after a break is a pain.
I hear the frustration in my clients over and over again:
"But I could complete my to-do list, and now I barely make it through the first two items."
"But I could read a book in a couple of days, and now I can only read a couple of pages."
"But I could wake up at 5 am and be ready for a full day, and now I can only drag myself through the day."
Let's think of a marathon runner who had an injury. Once she is recovered, she will not be expecting to run 42.195 km the first day of training. She will be more than happy if she can walk around the block once without pain. And she will be showing up consistently until she can run fully again.
The same applies to any activity after a long break; you need to give yourself some time to rebuild the level of performance you once had. Set up small achievable goals that will take you to your peak and won't break you during the process.
