Screw faking it
"Fake it until you make it." I dislike this expression so much.
It defeats the purpose. If you are faking it, you are not allowing yourself to learn how to become the person you want to be. It implies that you have to pretend to be someone you are not, hide who you really are in your way to be someone else, suppress vulnerability and steal the joy of the journey.
We all have a vision, we all want to be better. It is great to have a big vision, and idea of how your life, your business, your role, your finances are going to be in 6, 12, 2 years time. Often, that big vision feels a bit overwhelming, The distance between your present and your future feels to large, unreachable.
That is why I prefer to call it "closing the gap between who you are and who you want to be" instead, or where you are and where you want to be. An alternative to fake it is to get a crystal clear picture of the person you want to become. Maybe think of a real person as a role model, and when facing a situation that requires you to step up, ask yourself: what would that new me do in this situation? This simple question allows you to embody the feeling, making it yours and hence, integrating it into your tool kit, moving you one step closer to the person you want to be.
As popular culture says...What would Beyoncé do? 😂 Do you have any strategies to move over difficult steps?
