Screw New Year Resolutions

New Year's Resolutions? Not my style. I build enough TO DO lists during the year to stress myself out with a master TO DO list that I will probably drop after a few days into the new year. Instead, I've embraced the idea of thematic years (did I just coin that term?). Assigning a word or theme to the year makes it easier for me to take purposeful actions. When distractions arise, my year word guides me—a quick yes if it aligns, a pass if it doesn't.

For 2024, my word is MONEY.

Why? Money means freedom and safety to me, and if I'm honest, the future can be intimidating.

The fear of insufficient funds for early retirement—not to stop working but to choose how and with whom I work.

The fear of being tethered to unenjoyable workplaces or unable to negotiate better conditions due to financial constraints troubles me.

The fear of lacking a permanent, comfortable home in my older years nags at me.

The fear of aging without options looms.

These fears stem from scarcity, a mindset I reject. I refuse to base my life on fear or scarcity. The only way to conquer fear is to face it head-on and be proactive.

Hence, my word for 2024 is MONEY. I aim to confront my fears, look them in the eye, and assert, "You are not in charge here; I am."
