Success and failure

Nov 7

What makes you successful? What makes you a failure?

I interview swimmers in a podcast. We talk about mental strength, training and success.

They all have achieved amazing things. Fastest swimmer across Cook Strait, 38h swimming in a row, swimming in ice cold water.

They all are successful athletes. Do you know what all of them have in common?

They all have their own definition of success. Not their parents, not their friends, not their partner... They set up a goal, put a plan together to pursue it and they know exactly when they are being successful. By setting up their own expectations they are more likely to follow up the plan and achieve the goal. They are more likely to achieve success.

Same way goes for failure. Reframing failure into learning, into a way to move further quicker gives a different perspective to the fear of taking action.

We often get carried away by other people's expectations, other people's definition of success, fear of failure and what other will think about our journey, forgetting what is what we really want, which ends up in frustration and giving up. By defining how success feels and looks for us we are setting ourselves for... well, success.

What is your definition of success?
